Introduction to Professor Bob McMahon's Research

Professor McMahon and his graduate students study molecules that are often found in interstellar space. These molecules can be found in space clouds (called nebulas), galaxies, and many other space objects. Because these objects are so far away, it would be impossible to go into space and retrieve a sample. For that reason, Professor McMahon and his graduate students make the molecules in the lab. The lab they work in has specially designed equipment that can mimic the environment of outer space while allowing the molecules of interest to be studied by different methods.
