Primary Structure

Primary structure refers to the order in which molecules are attached to one another. In the case of beta peptides, the linear sequence of beta amino acids is the primary structure. Let's go back to the necklace idea. The different colored beads represent different beta amino acids that make up a peptide or protein. When the amino acids are in different orders the resulting peptide is different.
