Abstract is the working Mathcad document for exploring various orders of polynomial that can be used to represent the data for silver. Other data sets can be prepared by the students or instructor in separate csv files or by placing the data directly in the Mathcad file. This curve fitting document is heavily annotated for the novice user of Mathcad and therefore can be used by students for independent study assignments. Questions at the end of the exercise emphasize active learning for mastery of the topic. The fitting.pdf file is an Adobe Acrobat file containing a description of the matrix method for solving the set of simultaneous equations used in fitting a polynomial to the data. Some knowledge of matrix algebra would be needed for students to use this document effectively.
