| Abstract | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In this document students practice using the hydrogen like radial functions. The exercises lead from normalization of the function through variation of the Z term and comparison of the radial functions for different type orbitals. Ample exercises lead the student to a full understanding of the radial function and the radial distribution function. The concepts of shielding and penetration are included along with practice using the Slater Rules for shielding of nuclear charge. The document ends with a closure activity in which students are asked to apply the concepts to assess the type of bonding found in SF6. See also the document Radial Distributions Functions for Hydrogen-like Orbitals written by Flick Coleman. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
