Abstract
This document provides an exploration of concepts used in the beginning of most studies of quantum chemistry. Background information is included in the document. Students are asked to manipulate an existing graph, prepare their own graphs, draw conclusions from the graphs, and do a derivation. Five student exercises are embedded in the document to guide the students in developing mastery of the topic. The accompanying Acrobat (blackbody.pdf) file contains additional mathematically rich content on the material in the Mathcad document. The documents are ideal for use by students for independent study.
